As we continue our study of the Sermon on the Mount, we come to Jesus’ preparatory words just before He began His explanation of what real obedience to God’s law entailed. This is a passage that has been confusing to many readers as they weigh our freedom in Christ against His demands for obedience. Let’s remember that His audience had been terribly misled about what the Law of God actually said because their teachers had replaced the Law with their own regulations.
